Kim Walker is a Rural Development and Environmental Management specialist. With over twenty years of experience in the private, public and non-profit sectors, Kim brings a unique combination of insight, resourcefulness, interdisciplinary training and a high level of skill to her work.
From 1982 to 1987, Kim worked on a wide range of environmental research and education projects for federal and provincial governments, non- profit organizations, and local boards and authorities. Kim worked as a consultant in Ontario, Yukon Territory and British Columbia from 1987 to 1993 on several projects including: energy conservation, land use planning, social and environmental impact assessments, corporate environmental policies and conservation research reporting. Prior to returning to her consulting practice in 2000, Kim served as a Senior Policy Analyst for the British Columbia government in community economic development and water policy; and as a Commercial Waste Reduction Coordinator with the Greater Vancouver Regional District. From these experiences she brings to clients a thorough understanding of policy and program development, strategic planning and public decision processes. Her experience at the community level includes public education, public participation, community organizational capacity building, diverse labour market development, social enterprises and impact assessments of municipal services.
Kim has gained a reputation for her ability to bring together a variety of people from different backgrounds, assess complex issues within the broader social context, provide leadership and rigorously attend to details. Kim has also developed a keen insight into organizational functions, behaviours and cultural characteristics. She has managed and led over forty inter-organizational committees and project teams.
Kim is a member of the international Community Development Society, Canadian Evaluation Society and BC Water and Waste Association. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Rural Development from the University of Guelph and an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Environment and Resource Management) from the University of Waterloo.
